At first i just experimented with my cd's to see how effective they would be and to see how they would be to work with. Then i created a small sample of what i was going to do on a larger scale.
This was my larger scale Jimi Hendrix Portrait out of cut up cd's. I think it was quite successful and i was really pleased with the effect the cd's. I would like to, in the future, do a set of music legends portraits using other materials such as tape cassettes or vinyls as a development of this.
This was my second idea of drawing with meaning which has a deeper meaning than my first piece. This is a portrait of Syd Barrett, founder of Pink Floyd and lead singer and guitarist for their first album Piper at the Gates of Dawn. Syd Barrett unfortunatly took too many drugs as Pink Floyd got more famous which eventually made him insane. When he left Pink Floyd David Gilmour and Roger Waters wrote a song about Barrett called Shine On You Crazy Diamond. I used guitar tabs from the song Shine On You Carzy Diamond to create my drawing as i thought it wouldnt be the same if i used any Pink Floyd song. I felt this drawing was particulaly successful as its simplicity is really effective.
